| Jean and Renee Daneel settled into the quiet but quaint country town of Napier en route to the well known Arniston, Struisbaai and L’Agulhas in 2004. First, they established their wine farm and boutique winery which their eldest son, Jean-Pierre heads as winemaker now. The next step was to renovate the dilapidated building they purchased, situated in the main road of Napier. With lots of vision, determination and a bit of French flair it was transformed into Reneessance, the restaurant, that Renee had dreamt about for years. Following that the old barn at the back was tackled. They were determined to keep the rustic look, which had Jean grumbling when he had to try and make the old stable door into a safe and secure entry to his wine tasting room. The barn now houses the Jean Daneel Tasting room as well as a deli, The Larder. The Ladder, the décor shop, has started in a small way on the veranda of the restaurant and will later be expanded in its own space in the barn.
